We have been looking at Apartheid in South Africa. On Monday, I had you analyze some facts and figures about the country. With this information, we completed a simulation that showed just how bad Apartheid was in South Africa. We also looked at the laws that made Apartheid exist. Today we started working on the World Affairs Challenge (WAC). I didn’t put you with groups today but I gave you a list of topics. Once you narrowed down your interest, you did some initial research. I encouraged groups that wanted to work together to separate and look at different topics so that they could narrow it down to a really good one to use for their WAC project.

Today we carved up Africa like the major powers did during the mid-1800s. After we carved up Africa we began to view the movie Guns, Germs and Steel.

Today I showed you two videos on China. THe first talked about three people’s experiences through China’s rapid growth. The other was a visual presentation of what the rapid growth in China is doing to its countryside. At the end, I intorduced the group poster project we will start next week.
